Advertising in the letter
Jacques Cœur was a merchant before he was the King’s treasurer: he will not mind us talking business, as long as it is done fairly.
Cher Jacques, goes out every Thursday to readers in and around Bourges who are looking for something to do at the weekend. Five outings, chosen one by one, and a few lines on why each is worth the trip: people read it to make up their minds, then they go out. The letter is written in French, for the people who live here, and so are its sponsors’ lines.
One sponsor per letter
Each letter carries one sponsor, and only one: a few lines of their own, after the five picks, presented as what they are. No banners, no wall of logos, no second advertiser tucked further down. A featured event in the site’s listings may follow later; it would keep to the same rules.
Bourges will be European Capital of Culture in 2028: between now and then the town will have more and more on, and more people looking for where to go. Cher Jacques, remains an independent letter, with no tie to the official organisation or to the City.
The figures
The list is young, and we would rather not round it up: subscriber numbers and page views are available on request, as they stand. The site counts its own pages, with no cookies and no tracking (see the privacy policy, in French): totals, never profiles.
The charter
Readers open the letter because they trust it. This charter is there to keep it that way:
- an advertisement looks like one: in the letter and on the site, every paid mention is labelled as advertising and names the advertiser it is for, as article 20 of France’s digital economy law (loi pour la confiance dans l’économie numérique) requires. The label matters all the more because your lines are written in the letter’s own tone: paid copy passed off as editorial would be a misleading commercial practice (article L121-4, 11° of the Code de la consommation);
- no tracking added: no pixel, no tracked link, no cookie. Your link may carry your own campaign parameters, the same for every reader; we add nothing to it and measure nothing ourselves;
- the voice stays ours: your lines are written with you, in the letter’s own tone, and the five picks are not for sale;
- we turn down what does not fit: what we would not recommend to a friend has no place in a letter to Jacques.
